While preparing to be a minister, Jonathan Edwards penned seventy resolutions that would guide him in the years to come. About twenty years later, he wrote a letter to a young convert named Deborah Hatheway, who had asked for advice on living the Christian life. These two short works, where have been often reprinted and referred to in the several centuries that followed, are literally overflowing with straightforward, Bible-based advice. The thoughts and advice of Jonathan Edwards are as current today as they was in the 1700s; as the wisdom contained in his books far surpasses any "how to" books lining the shelves of bookstores today.
